Q. WHY Virtual reality?
A. How else can you truly step into somebody's shoes and know first-hand what it feels like to experience a situation you otherwise might not experience? Plus, there is a positive correlation between interactivity and cognitive recall. What this means is that through simulated learning (use cases include medical training for surgeons, aviation training for pilots), you can actually practice, test, repeat, and learn in a simulated real-world environment and then later-on recall and apply the information you learned in a real-world setting. We learn by doing, and this is the safest way to learn when the stakes of not-knowing are high. Further, Virtual Reality is a medium that connects with the generations who will be engaging with it and better has the ability to reach and communicate to the target audience of employees, students and peers.
Q. WHY UNIVERSITIES? Why corporations?
A. In terms of universities, we want to tackle the area of maximal impact first. If we can solve sexual violence and change the culture around sexual assault at the campus level, there will be less sexual assault at the corporate level as the years progress. We want to start from the bottom and build up - rather than starting from the top and building down. HOWEVER, we are aware that this is a pervasive issue at the corporate level, so we want to take on the challenge of tackling both. It's time to change the culture, and it's time to stop sweeping the issue under the rug. We plan to launch for the corporate space a couple of months after launching for the collegiate space - both within spring / summer of 2018.
Q. WHY Now?
A. It's 2017, and 1 out of 5 female college students will still be sexually assaulted every year. Sexual violence within the LGBTQIA community is even higher. Further, we're still seeing countless accounts of rape being mishandled at the university-level and beyond, of sexual assault going unreported, and we still have a pervasive culture that we need to tackle in order to truly be able to create communities that are supportive of sexual assault victims and are safe for victims to speak out.
